State of tokenization registers 2026: 250 jurisdictions, 15 with a public list of token issues.
We checked every ISO country code plus the EU for an official register of tokenized assets or digital-asset firms, loaded every address we found, and read 162 registers in full. The short version: most registers list companies, not tokens — and a registration is rarely an issue.
Registers mostly list who may do business, not what was issued.
Of the registers we read, 104 list licensed or registered firms — exchanges, custodians, brokers — in 75 jurisdictions. Only 20 list individual issues, in 15: Brazil, Canada, Germany, European Union, Hong Kong, Japan, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Philippines, Serbia, Russia, Seychelles, El Salvador, Uzbekistan.
| What the register lists | Registers | Jurisdictions | Entries |
|---|---|---|---|
| Licensed or registered providers | 104 | 75 | 28,374 |
| Registered issues | 20 | 15 | 5,965 |
| Candidates (full-text search) | 1 | 1 | 5,451 |
| Sandbox participants | 30 | 24 | 1,751 |
| Decisions and letters | 4 | 4 | 292 |
| Registered issuers | 3 | 3 | 288 |
A registration is permission to offer. Few become a token you can find.
- El Salvador: one issuer, NexBridge, holds 28 registrations with the digital-assets regulator CNAD. 3 of them exist on-chain, on Liquid, with the issuer’s domain proof. The rest are approvals without a token.
- Hong Kong: the SFC lists 2,408 authorised funds; 4 are digital (tokenised) funds, and 3 of those are confirmed by their manager as open for subscription.
- European Union: ESMA’s interim MiCA register holds 1,038 white papers for crypto-assets other than stablecoins. Filing a white paper is a notification, not an approval, and almost all of them are crypto tokens rather than claims on a real-world asset.
Germany is the exception: the register entry creates the security.
Under the eWpG (2021), a crypto security exists once it is entered in a crypto-securities register, and every entry must be published in the Bundesanzeiger. Reading 374 notices gives 286 securities with an ISIN, 8 of them since deleted. Where the notice names a chain: Polygon 140, Stellar 12, private permissioned ledgers 9; 124 do not say.

95 jurisdictions publish no register we could find. 27 follow another jurisdiction’s regime. In 18, a register exists but cannot be read by a program — a browser-only page, a bot wall, a login or a scanned document:

How this was built
- For each code in ISO 3166 plus the EU, we identified the authorities for securities and digital assets and searched their sites for public registers.
- Every register address was loaded. None was guessed; a missing or broken register is recorded as a finding, not skipped.
- Readable registers are fetched by program on a quarterly cycle. We do not get past captchas, bot walls, geo-blocks or logins; those registers count as “not machine-readable”.
- A register entry is reported as what it is: a licence, registration or approval. A token enters our catalogue only when the issuer or an official register shows it was actually issued.
