How “can I buy this” is decided here

Every label above is derived from what the issuer states, not from an opinion we formed about the product. An instrument is marked EU retail only where the issuer says it is available in the EU/DE and does not gate it to professional or qualified investors. A professional gate makes it professional whatever else the page says. Where an issuer states nothing at all, it reads unknown — and unknown is treated as closed, never as open, because an unverified claim of access is the one a reader is most likely to act on and the worst to get wrong.

Open

No KYC on the secondary market and genuinely self-custodial: obtainable on a DEX whatever the primary market requires. The strongest access statement in this dataset, and deliberately hard to earn — an unverified gate never qualifies.

EU retail

The issuer states availability in the EU/DE without a professional-investor gate. KYC may still apply.

Professional

Gated to MiFID II professional clients or qualified investors, with no open secondary route. An ordinary retail saver does not qualify, whatever the token’s price or liquidity suggests.

Not EU

The issuer states an availability that is not an EU/DE yes — most often US-only or explicitly excluded — and there is no open secondary route either.

Unknown

No availability statement from the issuer. Unverified — treat as closed until checked, never as open.

Availability is modelled for the EU/DE only. Per-country eligibility is not in this dataset and cannot be inferred from it — a token open to an EU investor is not necessarily open to yours. Check with the issuer before acting on anything here.

BA, answered.

Which tokenized BA can an EU investor actually buy?

+

BAx — 1 of the 2 tokens tracking Boeing is stated by its issuer as available in the EU/DE without a professional-investor gate. KYC may still apply. The remaining 1 is not: BAon (Ondo Global Markets (BVI)) is professional investors only.

Why are there 2 different tokens for one security?

+

Because tokenizing a share is not one act. Each issuer builds its own wrapper — its own legal entity, jurisdiction, custody arrangement and distribution route — around the same underlying. The tokens are not competing versions of one product; they are different products giving exposure to the same thing, and they differ most in who is permitted to hold them.

Are these interchangeable?

+

No. They share a price driver and almost nothing else. Different issuer means different counterparty risk, different regulator, different redemption route and different eligibility. Two tokens can move identically all year and still leave you with entirely different rights if the issuer fails.

Does a token ISIN matter here?

+

It tells you something real. An ISIN attaches to a security issued under a regime that requires one, so its presence signals a securities wrapper with a prospectus behind it — and in our data that lines up with wider retail access. Its absence is not a defect; it describes a different legal structure. Both appear in the table below.
